As a Practice we see our staff as the major asset of the business. We have therefore taken time to recruit staff members who have the right attitude and personality to deliver a courteous and professional service to our clients, enabling them to develop a trusting, approachable and valued relationship.
Most clients' first point of contact with the Practice will generally be through Iain or his associate Gill.
Iain Sim B.Acc CA – Principal
Iain founded the Firm in 2002. He trained and qualified as a CA with Arthur Andersen, Glasgow in audit, tax and business services before moving into industry. Much of his time in industry and commerce was eventually spent in the motor industry as finance director of several large motor businesses, where he gained valuable experience from each as they required close financial control, attention to detail and tight cashflow management. He was also involved in the senior management of these businesses beyond his financial role, thus gaining valuable business experience.
Iain has a wide range of expertise, technical knowledge and a wealth of experience in all areas of business, not just financial. He enjoys using his experience to benefit clients and is committed to providing strong client support with excellent communication between the Firm and its clients.
Iain believes a pro-active approach from all staff is essential to build trust and long lasting relationships with clients. This is the foundation upon which the Firm has been based and which has enabled it to enjoy rapid growth, particularly in the specialist niche areas of business planning and corporate finance services.
He is married to Yana with one daughter, Natalie, and enjoys football, circuit training and going to the gym as well as socialising with friends.
In 1998 he re-entered the accountancy profession with a view to utilising the skills and experience gained for the benefit of clients, and then opened our Kilmarnock office in 2002.
Gill Groom FCA – Associate
Gill qualified with Ernst & Whinney and joined a mid-tier 20 partner firm in the North West of England where she became a general practice Partner. She took a career break after having her daughter and moved to Ayrshire in 1990. She lectured to ACCA students at Ayr College and worked in a number of Ayrshire firms before joining the Practice in 2004. Gill joined Iain as a partner in the firm in 2007 and is now an associate in the practice.
Gill is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is Treasurer and Deputy Chairperson of the Ayrshire Young Enterprise Board. She is married with one daughter.
Gill has extensive experience in working with and providing support to owner managed small to medium-sized businesses, in the areas of accounting, audit and tax as well as in SME Corporate Finance. This encompasses advising on raising funding for new and established businesses, in terms of loans, grants and equity and also advising on acquisitions, disposals and Management Buy-outs of companies.
She has worked with clients as diverse as pop groups, the entertainment and leisure industry, manufacturing and service businesses, as well as those in the renewable energy and healthcare sectors. Gill has also contributed greatly to the development of the Firm and her wealth of experience is invaluable for clients and staff alike.
Lorna Logan FCCA - Associate
Lorna was appointed as Associate of the Firm in July 2015. Having joined the Practice in 2002, she completed an HND in accountancy and followed the ACCA professional exam route to qualify as an accountant in 2007. Lorna deals with limited companies, partnership and sole trader annual accounts and also works on business plans and forecasting assignments. Lorna has also performed Financial Controller roles for clients and has acquired her commercial knowledge from this experience.
To ensure that clients can always contact someone in the office who knows about their business situation we have appointed four of our senior staff members as Client Managers. The Client Managers are allocated a portfolio of clients and become the first point of contact for those clients to assist the Partner/Associate and ensure that the client can access assistance quickly. They are also responsible for the supervision of junior members of staff and provide training and support as required.

Moira has had a varied career working in both practice and business and has developed a broad commercial knowledge from this experience. She is responsible for dealing with our own internal accounting records as well as working with clients on the preparation of their year end and management accounts. Moira also works with our legal practice clients having gained specialist knowledge in this area and supervises staff who undertake our outsourced financial management service on behalf of clients.
Elaine MacDougall ACCA
Elaine joined the Firm in June 2005 and following the ACCA professional examinations qualified as an accountant in 2010. Elaine carries out a wide variety of duties including preparation of year end accounts and management accounts as well as supervising the bookkeeping department within the Practice. She has recently gained accreditation as our ‘Xero’ cloud based accountancy system expert.
Heather has been with the company since July 2005. Heather prepares year end and management accounts and has recently taken over managing our Tax department with the preparation of Self-Assessment Tax Returns, Capital gains tax calculations and Corporation tax returns and computations. Heather also visits clients to support their accounts function and provide advice. She has recently passed her Diploma in Accounting with the Association of Accounting Technicians.
Amanda Hearton B.Acc (Hons)
Amanda’s day-to-day duties include making client visits, together with year-end accounts and management accounts preparation for individuals, partnerships and limited companies. She graduated with a 2.1 Bachelor of Accountancy degree in July 2011 and is currently studying at the final professional level of her ACCA qualification.
Lynsey Chambers B.Acc
Lynsey graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a BA in Accountancy. She has worked in accounting roles in both Practice and business, specifically the property and manufacturing industries and joined the Practice in 2014. Lynsey’s role includes preparing annual and management accounts and supervising the bookkeeping for various clients.
The client managers are supported by our team of accountancy and administration staff, many of whom are studying for professional qualifications with ACCA or AAT.

Claire joined the company in 2010 as Practice Administrator and has over nineteen years’ secretarial experience in the private sector. Claire is PA to Iain Sim and deals with various aspects of the day-to-day running of the office, liaising with clients and staff alike and including company formations, company secretarial and credit control.
Kelly Higgins B.Acc
Kelly Higgins joined the company in 2012. Kelly’s day-to-day duties include bookkeeping and liaising with Client Managers on various aspects of accounts work. She graduated with a Degree in Accountancy from UWS in 2012 and is currently studying towards ACCA qualification.
Kayley Irvine B.Acc
Kayley joined the firm in June 2015 having recently completed her Bachelor of Accounting degree at the University of the West of Scotland, graduating in December 2015. Whilst Kayley was studying, she gained valuable experience working in the private sector which stands her in good stead for her accounts assistant role within IDS & Co. Kayley plans to continue studying to enable her main goal of becoming a qualified Accountant through ACCA.
Jennifer started with us in August 2016 in our payroll department. Jennifer has over thirteen years of payroll experience, having worked in various roles in the private sector processing payrolls, purchase ledgers and other financial tasks.
Latterly, in her last role she was also dealing with pensions and will be able to assist with any auto enrolment or pension enquiries within the Firm going forward.
Liz joined the firm in early 2017 as an Accounts Assistant assisting the Client Managers with all areas including year-end and management accounts preparation for individuals, partnerships and limited companies. Liz has over 23 years’ experience in the business sector and can also credit having HNC’s in both Supply Chain Management and Accounting and is a welcome asset to the firm.
Iain joined the firm as an Accounts Assistant in May 2017 from another accountancy practice in Kilmarnock and also has experience working in the charitable sector. He graduated from Strathclyde University in 2005 with a BA (Hons) Finance degree and is currently studying towards achieving the ACCA qualification.
Dylan joined the firm in May 2017. He obtained an HNC and HND before going onto university where he achieved a 2.1 in BA Accounting honours. Dylan gained a few months experience as a finance assistant elsewhere prior to joining IDS + Co permanently.
Emma is a Senior Accounts Supervisor and joined the firm in October 2017.
Emma has over twenty-five years accounting experience gained across a number of businesses in the private sector. She has an HND in Accounting and also a CAT Certificate from ACCA (Certified Accounting Tech).
Fiona Park B.Acc (Hons)
Fiona is our newest member of staff having joined the firm as an Accounts Assistant from an accounting firm in Glasgow in February 2018.
She graduated from Robert Gordon in Aberdeen in 2005 with a BA (Hons) degree in accounting and is currently studying towards achieving the acca qualification.
Finlay joins us on a part-time basis while studying for an HNC in Accounting & Business at Ayrshire College. She carries out general office duties to gain experience within the firm whilst studying.
Tom O’Connell CA CTA
Tom was Iain’s first ‘boss’ in Arthur Andersen’s tax department and they remained in contact over the years. Tom was also a partner in Grant Thornton and now acts as a tax consultant with our firm. He particularly enjoys working with family businesses and providing the best tax solutions for structuring exits, inheritance tax planning and trusts.
